Baby Samuel

Each time I shoot a newborn session, the same memory comes back. The day after Ella was born, and the nurse is telling Joe and I that we can take her home now. I remember panicking. A little. Well, maybe a little more than a little. I didn’t feel qualified. I hadn’t read enough books or asked enough questions. I didn’t like the pressure. The choices I would have to make for another person. Every fever, needing to decide if it was doctor worthy. Emergency worthy. Or just some tylenol and rest. Then there’s the ongoing debate about immunization shots. Do I do them? Skip them? Space them out? Ah, yes. One more reason I am so blessed to know the Lord. Who cares more for my family than I ever could. It eases the pressure. He carries the weight.

Heidi & James are amazing. So I have no doubt that Samuel will grow up to be equally cool. Even during our shoot, he was wide awake. Ready to party. Love them. Love him. Yep – I’m a big fan of this family.

D – Is for Darnelle

My mother-in-law (MIL) always makes these acronyms. You know the kind, you probably were taught this type of poetry in third grade. Before Haiku. And after basic rhyming. Weekly she fills my inbox with emails. Among the many forwards she sends me, an encouraging acronym of my name or something else, is always among them. I love my MIL to bits! So bright. So cup full (Not cup half full like your regular optimist. Cup completely full. Overflowing.). What if that’s the way I started each blog post? Would it catch on? So here it goes for Darnelle: D – Daring, A – Awesome , R – Really photogenic…. okay, that’s enough. There are only so many ways to say Darnelle is “super cool” without boring you.  Not only is she wicked awesome, she is also pregnant! With 6 weeks left. We started the shoot with just her and spent the last 15 minutes-ish with her boys.

By the way, I’m pretty sure we got Canada’s Next Top Maternity Model here. These photos don’t lie.

The routine.

When I was younger my mother was a true-blue super-mom. That woman who could run a business, have a clean house, fresh baking on the counter, play with her 3 kids, and dinner ready by 5 o’clock.  For sure an inspiration!  Having a super-mom as a friend and parent is encouraging and a little discouraging. So much to live up to.

I find it’s way too easy to fall into a funk. To lose any sort of a routine, and cling to, well… survival. You always hear how quickly these years with little kids zip by. I know I don’t want to miss out. Instead of I want to squeeze every drop out of this days, weeks, months, years. Every minute is precious.

Poor, Harris. Mom’s being fun…. you’d think I was torturing him!
