I first met with Nicole mid June, to discuss her August wedding. As in, two months away. I think I just heard 50 or so brides gasp. As in 62ish days. Okay, now everyones gasping. Nicole’s just great like that. Some may say crazy, I say “great”. I love relaxed brides. And that is just what her day was. Relaxed. And super organized. That’s quite the challenge to be both, so yes, Nicole’s great like that. Back to my story… They planned a lounge-like backyard wedding. This made me mostly excited and a little nervous. Lounge-like-looks (the triple “L’s”), can be bam or bust. Not the easiest mood to pull off. But they did. Brilliantly. Yep. BAM!
Here’s Kory. And it must be said: he’s equally great. Calm, cool, and collected.

Back to Nicole.

Kory and Nicole agreed to have a first sight before the ceremony. I’ve said it before, and I’ll saying over and over again until I annoy you… first looks are my favorite. It gives the Bride and Groom that special moment with just the two of them, more photo goodness, and a relaxing time with guests immediately following the ceremony. Nicole had Kory wait for her at their favorite spot. In a field, under a tree that stands alone. Kory waited nervously as Nicole took the long walk (maybe a little longer than she remembered) across the field. And the day only went up from there.

And here is why I love having a second shooter. When I was getting the shots above, Joe captured this:

We took a kadrillion detail photos. Enough for it’s own blog post. Here are just a few:

Wedding time.

Kory and Nicole, Congratulations!

Ella (my two year old), has been sick lately, which means she wakes up every hour or less at night. Not good. So after a long night of trying to sleep, my husband lovingly let me sleep in. Which was great – except for my morning session I had planned with the Neufelds. I woke up at 8am, grabbed the clothes nearest me and jetted to Derby Reach. As I’m driving there, I realize I dressed in only greys and blacks. Ugh. First time meeting my clients, and I show up as a colorless goth. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against the goth look, it just isn’t my thing! I like bright, happy colors. Not a whole outfit of neons, but at least a splash of color. Outfit aside, my trusty GPS (which isn’t usually all that trustworthy), my luke warm coffee, and my heavy foot, got me to the location with time to spare. I’m usually the girl that gets to a shoot uncomfortably early. Like, bring-a-book early. So, maybe a little sleeping in is forgiveable. Given that I have an outfit planned the night before. But enough about me…
Here are the Neufelds! Amber, Tim, and one year old, Meeka. Amber was a Starbucks barista. Something about those Starbuck’s girls – don’t think I’ve met one that I didn’t like! And Tim is an RCMP officer. Not gonna lie, you can’t know too many of those. And Meeka, well.. he is probably one the most friendly toddlers I’ve ever met. Usually I start a shoot with a good amount of chatting with the parents, then slowly ease my way into a conversation with the little ones. I want to make them comfortable with me before I shove a lens in their face. But Meeka needed no time at all to warm up to me. I love it. I just had a thought… go with me for a minute. You know how if you have a dog, and you go to someone else’s house who also has a dog, your friend’s dog can smell your dog all over you? Maybe kids are like that a little. Maybe being a Mommy makes them trust me a little easier. Hmmm. Like I said – just a thought. A weird thought, but whatever.
Tim and Amber are so fun. If haven’t met them before, you should probably facebook stalk them or something. I’m kidding – you know that, right?

Some people can eat one chocolate and feel satisfied. Other people, like “normal” people (okay – that’s not fair. I realize that. But I’m not changing my opinion.), can’t stop with one. Having only one sweet is way more torturous than not having any at all. For those people, I apologize for this teaser. This one shot of an amazing couple and no more.
I am working away at editing the rest. So for now, this is all you get.
